Advanced Pest Surveillance and Early Warning System

The ancient Egyptians were among the earliest civilizations to recognize the necessity of pest management in agriculture. As early as 3000 BC, they employed cats to safeguard their grain stores from rats. Since then, pest management has remained crucial for agricultural safety. Throughout history, devastating outbreaks of pests, particularly fungi and locusts, have ravaged vast swathes of land, leading to widespread famines and human migrations. Events such as the potato blight in Ireland during the 1800s and the Wheat Rust epidemic in the US in the 1950s have underscored the severe economic impact of such outbreaks.

Today, with advancements in agricultural practices and the intensification of farming methods, the ability to monitor and predict pest outbreaks is more critical than ever for both primary producers and governments. The sheer scale of agricultural lands, the diversity of crops, and the specificity of diseases affecting each crop necessitate ICT interventions provided by AgriTech to find effective solutions.

In response to these challenges, AgriTech leverages advanced technologies to track and forecast pest outbreaks, enabling proactive management strategies that enhance agricultural resilience and productivity.

Agricultural Producer Registration System

To ensure food security, a robust supply chain is essential, which requires a system capable of tracking both supply and demand within the ecosystem. Central to the supply side is the establishment of a comprehensive registry of food producers in the region. This registry not only records their names and addresses but also provides detailed insights into their land holdings and crop cultivation practices. Such information is crucial for implementing effective interventions during the pre-harvest processes.

In emerging economies, achieving food security involves addressing gaps such as procuring agricultural produce from farmers, managing the supply chain, and enhancing transparency in the system.

The Producer Registry is a technology intervention designed to support agencies and organizations in developing a database of all producers within their operational areas. It includes comprehensive profiles detailing who the producers are, what they cultivate, and their production capacities. This database enables accurate forecasting of seasonal or annual yields. Moreover, its integration capabilities with public databases—including land records, weather forecasts, and agricultural intelligence systems—enable procurement agencies to estimate the requirements of the entire value chain. It also provides validated data to government agencies for their welfare programs.

To facilitate seamless implementation, the product includes the following modules:

Digitization Module:
This initial phase involves farmers and sharecroppers registering their demographics, land holdings, and bank details. The system generates unique identification numbers for producers within the state.

✅ Land Verification Module:
Entered land records undergo automatic verification against an existing digitized land records database. If unavailable, the module offers a manual verification process. Verified data can seamlessly integrate with other systems such as Procurement and Supply Chain Systems.

✅  Bank Verification Module:
Farmers’ bank records are verified through an automated system with respective banks. Depending on the country, verification may involve linking to unique identification numbers like Aadhar Number in India.

✅Planning & Forecasting Module: Utilizing the verified data, this module generates customized Management Information System (MIS) reports for procurement agencies, government departments, and food processing units. These reports facilitate planning and forecasting of farm produce availability for stakeholders.

Soil Management Information System

It is widely acknowledged that soil plays a critical role in supporting food production, as food availability hinges on soil health. Healthy soil is essential for food security and nutrition because any deficiency in the 15 essential nutrients required for plant growth can limit crop yields. With the global population expected to surpass 9 billion by 2050, coupled with challenges such as competition for land and water resources and the impacts of climate change, the future of food security depends on increasing yields and improving food quality using existing agricultural lands. Agricultural production must rise by 60 percent globally—and nearly 100 percent in developing countries—by 2050 to meet projected food demand alone (FAO, UN).

Sustainable soil management offers a promising solution, potentially increasing food production by up to 58 percent (FAO, UN). Soil testing is a crucial component of effective soil management, recognized as a reliable scientific tool for assessing soil’s ability to supply plant nutrients. An integrated soil information system that consolidates soil testing data is invaluable for informing policies, interventions, and recommendations. This system is vital for all stakeholders in the food industry, from individual farmers to institutional growers and government bodies.

The Soil Information System is a centralized, integrated information system that consolidates data from soil surveys, sample testing, analysis, and final output generation for soil mapping and recommendations. It facilitates efficient monitoring by providing easy access to comprehensive soil information.

Below is an overview of the system’s workflow:

Form Designing & Surveyor Tagging:
The process begins with the system enabling the design of survey forms featuring predefined questions through a dynamic application. Surveyors are tagged, and specific locations for soil sample collection are assigned.

✅ Data Collection & Soil Sampling:
Survey data is collected and entered into a mobile app form. Each soil sample is assigned a unique identity code for archival, reference, and potential retesting purposes. The system captures real-time longitude and latitude coordinates to track sample collection accuracy relative to assigned locations.

✅Soil Archival Management:
The system maintains records of soil archives, facilitating tracking of transaction history for each soil sample taken for retesting.

✅Lab Testing & Soil Analysis: Samples undergo laboratory testing to analyze soil type specific to the area. Results provide insights into various soil parameters such as pH levels, texture, structure, and elemental composition.

Certified Seed Verification System

Seed Quality Assurance System

Achieving a successful harvest hinges on various factors: soil quality, temperature, water availability, fertilizers, and notably, the seeds used. Providing producers and farmers with the best seed varieties is crucial for optimizing the food production value chain. A major challenge in achieving high farm yields has been the availability of quality seeds. Low-quality seeds not only reduce yield per hectare but also result in substandard produce, vulnerable to diseases and pests.

Seed Certification is a globally recognized system aimed at preserving genetic purity and seed identity. Legally sanctioned in most countries, it serves as a prominent quality control mechanism, ensuring seeds are of superior genetic stock and comply with established standards.

This certification holds paramount importance for all stakeholders in the food industry. Farmers and institutional growers benefit from higher yields and resistance to pests, while procurement agencies can rely on certified quality produce. Government bodies and food processing industry leaders also rely on seed certification to ascertain produce quality.

To enhance the certification process and integrate all farmers into the system, automation and IT play pivotal roles. Streamlining the process and making it accessible to producers is essential for compliance. Technologies like Blockchain further ensure transparency across the entire farm-to-fork value chain.

The Seed Certification System by Elhunt revolutionizes the certification process, enhancing efficiency and transparency. As a core component of our AgriTech solution suite, it provides an end-to-end solution for certification, ensuring stakeholders have instant access to critical information.

Key Modules of the Seed Certification System include:
